  Pasteis de Bacalhau (Portuguese Cod Cakes)


- 500 g of salt cod
- 500 grams of potatoes to make mashed
- 1 onion
- 1 clove garlic
- 1 large bunch parsley
- 6 fresh eggs



To desalinate cod for at least 24 hours in plunging the pieces in a bowl of fresh water to be renewed every 6 hours. Ideally leave a trickle of fresh water throughout the period of desalting.
Put the cooking cod in cold water to a boil and maintain 15 to 20 minutes.
To cook the potatoes cut into pieces in cold water and proceed to mill vegetables.
During the cooking potatoes and cod, chop very fine garlic, onion and parsley, mix these three ingredients.
When the cod is cooked, drain, remove skin and bones and shred into very fine filaments. Mix potatoes past, cod onion, garlic, parsley and whole eggs.
With the aid of 2 tablespoons, shape dumplings and throw them as a frying. Remove the dumplings when they are crisp and golden.
